If making simple adjustments to colour, contrast and exposure isn’t satisfying your creativity, then Color Efex Pro may be just what you’re looking for. This plug-in to Photoshop and Lightroom takes all the hard work out of applying a vast number of photo effects and adjustments to mood and tone using presets. Divided under headings including Architecture, Landscape, Portrait, Wedding and Travel, each of these contain a selection of styles that can be customised to suit your image, whether that’s enhanced detail, low- or high-key effects, or a touch more atmosphere.

1  Select first preset For a landscape image, select the Bi-Colour User Defined preset. Adjust the Blend, Vertical Shift and Rotation amounts to position the effect over your image.

2    Begin stacking Press Add Filter on the right panel to start stacking filters. Locate the Indian Summer preset and select Method. Boost the Enhance Foliage slider.

3  Build the effect Use the Detail Extractor preset to create an HDR-style image. Adapt the Contrast, Detail Extractor and Shadows/Highlights sliders to form a balanced image.
