Fujifilm have recently announced a host of new photography kit for both professionals and advanced enthusiast photographers. At the head of the line-up is the X-E3, an interchangeable-lens, mirrorless camera aimed at photographers wanting extreme portability and low-weight, but demanding advanced features and professional image quality. The X-E3 is significantly smaller than it’s X-Pro stablemates, being the smallest and lightest Fuji interchangeable-lens model, but packs in an enhanced AF tracking system, X-Trans 3 sensor, 4K video and bluetooth connectivity for auto image transfer to a smartphone.

Our initial impressions are that the camera is solidly built and comfortable to use, the light body being well sculpted and fitting easily in the hand. The layout of the camera design should be familiar to regular Fuji users.

Of particular interest to X-Pro2 users and those of the new X-E3 are two new lenses that were also announced by Fujifilm recently. The XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR macro optic greatly extends the creative possibilities of the Fuji lens range, offering 1:1 reproduction ratio, solid build and 5-axis optical stabilisation in a weather-resistant body.

Meanwhile, the XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR will offer super-wide, low-light shooting possibilities, with an extensive wide-angle perspective combined with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. Whilst it is to be a large optic, the design still minimises weight and size as much as possible, bringing it in line with the portability of the rest of the Fuji mirrorless system.
