What camera and settings did you use to take the shot?
Sony NEX 6 + Sigma Art Lens 58mm
How much planning was involved? Did you go out with an idea of the kind of shot you wanted?
Google is ever so helpful with the research before the trip; what to shoot, where to shoot, the weather. Composition of the subjects was mainly done on the spot.
Can you tell us a little more about the image?
Ever changing of the weather, a minute too late and this shot wouldn’t have happened at all.
What do you like about the picture?
Impermanence. Like the constant change of weather, life is filled with unpredictability.
Did you do much to it in post-processing?
Always aim for minimal post-processing, but dust and spots removal is almost mandatory.
How do you feel about being one of the shortlisted photographers?
Extremely grateful. Absolutely blessed.

All the shortlisted images will be shown at Somerset House, London as part of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition from 21 April – 7 May 2017.

The shortlisted photographers are now competing to win their category, the winners will be announced at a Gala Ceremony in London on 20 April 2017.

The Sony World Photography Awards rewards and recognises the world’s best contemporary photography from the last year. Attracting photographers of all abilities, the awards incorporate four competitions: Professional; Open; Youth and Student.
