Hyperlapse from Instagram is a new app to capture high-quality time lapse videos even while in motion

Instagram introduces new time-lapse app

Today Instagram launched Hyperlapse, a standalone tool to let you easily share and create time-lapse videos straight from your mobile device!

The interface has been designed to be as simple as possible, with just a single button used to stop and start recording and unlike Instagram, there’s no login required. You can choose the playback speed for a Hyperlapse video with just a tap – anywhere from 1x (normal speed) to 12x, and then share it directly to Facebook or Instagram.

If you haven’t tried time-lapse photography before, it’s a technique where video is captured at a lower frame-rate than normal, and then played back at a standard-frame rate. It can be used to portray motion that takes a long time, like a flower blooming, or stars moving across the sky, making it seem to happen in real-time. For example, you record the sun slowly rising, then use Hyperlapse to show all of your footage in seconds. Try capturing vast but slow movements, such as clouds, the movement of a crowd, or a landscape moving outside of a car.

The Hyperlapse app is available for download at 6pm today in the iTunes store. To learn more about it and the features it’ll offer, check out the Instagram website.
