Panasonic LUMIX LX15 announced
A premium ‘pocket-sized’ 4K camera is on its way
Billed as the ‘ultimate compact camera for creative photographers’, the new LUMIX LX15 from Panasonic is based around a 1-inch MOS 20.1-megapixel sensor and features a f1.4-f2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens system with 3x optical zoom, which offers the equivalent of 24-72mm in 35mm terms.
A minimum shooting distance of 3cm (at the wide end of the zoom) enables macro capture.
The sensor offers improved signal-noise performance for low-noise performance even when the camera is pushed to higher ISO sensitivities, such as ISO 12800. A new Random Filter ensures that chromatic noise appears more naturally in images.
The high-precision autofocus boasts DFD (Depth from Defocus) technology for faster focusing times, calculating the distance to the subject by comparing two images with different sharpness levels at 240fps.
The camera features burst shooting at 10 fps (AF-S) and 6 fps (AF-C) to capture fast-moving action.
Post Focus technology enables in-focus areas to be selected after shooting. The LX15 also features a Post Focus Stacking option.
As we’ve come to expect from Panasonic, the camera features QFHD 4K video technology, capturing 3840×2160 at 30p / 25p(50Hz Area) or 24p in MP4 videos and full-HD 1,920 x 1,080/ 50p videos in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with practical full-time AF. The technology also enables users of the LX15 to extract 8-megapixel stills from a 4K burst file.
With other features including 5-axis hybrid Optical Image Stabilisation and 22 creative filters, the LX15 looks set to be a popular addition to the Panasonic LUMIX range.
