Gavin Gough to lead Photo tour into Egypt’s Black and White Desert
Leading freelance photographer Gavin Gough will lead Cairo Photo Tours’ new 8-day photo safari into Egypt’s Black and White Desert Region
Cairo Photo Tours, Egypt’s leading Photographic safari and tours company has announced that Gavin Gough, a leading freelance travel photographer who works with Getty Images and Lonely Planet will lead their new socially responsible photo safari into Egypt’s Black and White Desert in April 2011.
Cairo, Egypt, 23 July 2010.—Cairo Photo Tours – the photo safari and workshop arm of the Cairo Photo Group – announced that Gavin Gough, world renown freelance travel photographer who works with Getty Images and Lonely Planet will lead their new 8 day cultural and socially responsible photo safari into Egypt’s stunning Black and White Desert Region. The Photo tour is an 8 day workshop that allows keen photographers to get dedicated tuition from Gough and locally based cultural photographer, Marco Ryan, whilst experiencing the culture, beauty and remoteness of desert life. Organized through Cairo Photo Tours the trip uses 4×4 vehicles to navigate off-road through the desert, camping out under the stars, staying in simple guesthouses or living with the local villagers at the Oasis, whilst exploring their passion for photography.
One key differentiator is the social responsibility angle that Cairo Photo Tours promotes. The idea was conceived by Ryan and Gough to establish a new type of photo workshop and to be the first within the Egyptian tourist industry to run this type of safari. The aim is ensure that there is minimal impact on the local way of life, whilst ensuring that the participants get to experience the cultural diversity and richness that Egypt has to offer.
“So much tourism these days seems to impact the very place that the tourists come to see,” stated Marco Ryan, the owner of Cairo Photo Group. “Our tours work with the communities that we visit to support them through local purchasing and community projects. We spend more time in a location building relationships or integrating into the local way of life before we take our photographs, ensuring that we are culturally sensitive and allow our clients to produce compelling images that reflect the humanity of the people we are visiting”
“The opportunity to explore new locations is what keeps my photographic adventures fresh and exciting, “explains Gough. “The chance to spend time in Egypt’s Black and White deserts, to stay with local families and to camp out beneath the stars in the remote desert is quite extraordinary and not an experience to be missed. I am particularly impressed by the social and cultural responsibility that Cairo Photo Tours is adopting for their workshops and safaris.”
Cairo Photo Tours have also created a second socially responsible tour, led by famous humanitarian photographer, Matt Brandon, that will take place in October 2011 and will visit the villages, towns, monuments and some less well known areas between Luxor and Aswan. More information on both these photo workshop is available through the company’s website, http:://www.cairophototours.com.
