Press release: Bristol Zoo Gardens has launched a drawing and photography competition to highlight the plight of endangered amphibians.The Zoo is asking people from across the area to take photos or draw pictures of the frogs, toads, newts, spawn or tadpoles they see in the wild, in their back gardens or at the Zoo.The competition is open to all ages and launches on Leap Day (February 29) as part of the Zoo’s 2008 fundraising campaign, ‘The Year of the Frog’

Ricoh has announced its latest addition to the manufacturer’s digital compact line-up – the R8.At the launch on 19 February 2008, a Ricoh spokesman announced the manufacturer’s intention to continue working on perfecting its range of high-end compact digital cameras for the foreseeable future, adding: ‘Our aim is to become the digital camera brand choice of people who love photography.’To prove that they’re ‘serious’ about photography, Ricoh has decided to drop the ‘Caplio’ branding from their digital compact range, and has begun pouring money and resources into the research and development of compacts targeted at high-end users.First impressions are that the Ricoh R8 lives up the manufacturer’s new image: it looks stylish, feels solid, and delivers a good all-round performance.Boasting a 10mp sensor, Face Detection, 7.1x optical zoom and Vibration Correction, the R8 offers a decent feature set, for an affordable price of £250
