Getting to know the 1Ds Mk III
So, Canon has let me loose with a shiny new 1Ds Mk III, and I have to say, I’m loving it.We’ve heard today that some are reporting problems with the alignment of the sensor with the viewfinder, resulting in skewed images. Thankfully, our review model appears to be unaffected (so any wonky horizons are down to me!)So far the camera’s accompanied me on a couple of excursions – to the New Forest and Kimmeridge Bay. (The ponies in the forest didn’t seem to take much notice but it did attract the attention of a couple of fellow photographers who were down at the Bay yesterday). What can I say? It’s impressive!First impressions: it’s big, heavy (in a reassuring way rather than being a dead weight) and has buttons spread across its body that provide shortcuts to just about every function you could want at your fingertips while shooting. The AF system is incredibly fast to lock on, images are huge, look amazing (particularly if you’re shooting with a wide-angle lens, thanks to the full frame CMOS) and are incredibly detailed. The Live View function works well and is a saving grace if you’re shooting from odd angles: I used it to take the test shot above. In short: I want one!Anyone got a spare £6k?
