After months of cajoling, e-mailing and generally annoying Nikon’s PR as much as humanly possible we’ve finally managed to get a Coolpix S100pj into the office and it’s not half as bad as I thought it was going to be. With something as seemingly gimmicky as a built in projector there was every chance that the camera would take second fiddle, making the end product something of a unwanted miss-match between the two.

Instead the camera part isn’t half bad so far after taking a few snaps in and around the office and home, and the projector section does a job. Granted the bodywork feels a bit flimsy in places, and the focussing can take a little getting used to, but in darker conditions against a white wall it’s not half bad. This isn’t the start of a revolution, and I’m sure the novelty will wear off eventually, but the projector works up to and beyond expectations and the camera part is about right for a compact at this level. Hopefully we may shoot some video of the projector in action, so watch this space…
